Wouldnt HMRC have a ruling on this type of item? Off the top of my head you couldnt manage this with out of the box NetSuite if you are using a single item for purchases / sales. You would be forced to break it into sales components and assign a tax schedule (with codes) to each item to drive the result
s
Yeah, but that then breaks the purchasing side as we order as a single combined unit.
k
so what you want is to break your hamper into individual lines with its tax definitions and then combine them into a kit with its own tax. I do not see the other way around. Are your hampers always with the same number of items within them?
your hamper is a showcase of a kit actually, that’s the reason these kit items were created in NS
s
No, kits combine components which are bought independently and sell them under a single tax code, so that doesn't help. Item Groups would handle the tax codes when selling to customers but nether kits nor groups deal with buying in an item from our supplier which is neither zero nor standard rate but somewhere in between. Looks like there is no good solution - thanks for your help.

When I was at TR this was the nightmare scenario. In the US they are Gift Baskets
A tax engine can do this as it can process rules to essentially breakdown your item into components and provide tax to each portion. But out of the box NS is unlikely to manage this
k
well, I still see the only way in disassembling the hamper, assigning tax values to each item and then assembling then into the kits.
however unpopular this might be

@Karina is right on the approach if you have to use OOTB NS. There isnt another way without tax groups with tax rates that assume a fixed price to apportion the tax. Of course all of your tax reports will be wrong since they tie to the statutory rate.
s
Thanks all for your suggestions. Kits don’t use the components tax codes for sale to customers, they are assigned their own overall code, so dis-assembly won’t work. I think this is one for the accounts team to pick apart manually. Fortunately it’s a small proportion of sales!
Actually I think I may have found something-assembly items and the option to add them to a PO

Assemblies are the same as kits in many ways and used primarily in manufacturing. Same functionality as kits in many ways, and if this works for you, great. It is just you have to pay extra for this module if you did not have it; kits come with any NS instance
s
Already use both kits and assemblies for other purposes.
