Are there any benefits to using sublocations in Netsuite? When setup some fields in Netsuite show the full path but others only show the name. This makes selecting the location really hard so was wondering if there's any benefit to using an actual structure vs just naming conventions? Example Structured: Warehouse 1 --- Sellable --- Non-Sellable Warehouse 2 --- Sellable --- Non-Sellable Example Flat (but has structure in the names): Warehouse 1 : Sellable Warehouse 1 : Non-Sellable Warehouse 2 : Sellable Warehouse 2 : Non-Sellable A flat structure seems to display correctly everywhere. A physical structure does not.

I have not found any significant difference between individual locations vs sub locations other than reporting In reports you can show balances by the parent location grouped or sub locations individually If you don't have the parent/child structure you can't see subtotals but the parent location in reporting

Thanks, I'll do some testing to see if we think we need that.

Have you considered using the Inventory Status functionality?
d
Not familiar with that. At the moment just trying to make the best decision for a new location setup.

The inventory status could accomplish your sellable vs non sellable status without needing different locations It doesn't always fit all business needs but I've seen it work for some people

Ah, gotcha thanks. We have some other reasons for different locations, that just seemed like an easy example scenario to use for the question.

I see yes, that's pretty common. We use multiple locations for Customer Returns and Damaged Inventory as like a Materials Review location. It works fairly well, but people always ask to automate all the transfers. My favorite line "can't NetSuite just automate this??" LOL

Ha, that would be funnier if we weren't in the middle of a project to do just that 🙂

Yeah...my absolute favorite. Everyone says it's "too complicated" and "can't this be automated" but then when you sit down and start to detail out the requirements they say "we need people to review this, or approve this, we can't just have NetSuite do this without someone reviewing it" SMH
