If locations are already being shared across multiple subsidiaries and are used in transactions, how can we enable the inventory and multi-location inventory that forces us to have one to one relationship between the subsidiary and location? Do we have to go and edit the transactions historically which is insane?

one of the questions we had during our implementation was "will you ever use inventory". If we were planning to, they advised us to never use locations (create a custom segment instead). No idea if support have a quick fix for this but couldn't hurt to ask

Wow that sounds like terrible advice Jon. That said one of my questions is will you have inventory and if so I'll check that multi location field even if you think you'll only ever have one location
