Ya thats weird, maybe try like clearing cache and doing a restart or something, should definitely be there.

Are you in a role that matches the subsidiaries of that account? Has the account been referenced by already setting on Items? Or you can just Inactivate until you resolve it also to eleventh users using it

Yes, I'm in the standard Administrator role with access to every subsidiary. Unfortunately I cannot even check the inactive box in the accounts and the account has so far no postings and is not referenced to any item

It's going to be something local. Any other Administrators in the business? Try a different browser?
