Has anyone tried to setup project on sales order lines, in the same way you can create purchase orders and work orders for each line? (then store the link value for the created record)

Yes, this is possible and even required for some ARM setups

Ah you mean to automatically trigger the creation of a project vs associating a project on the line level of a transaction right?

Natively you would enable the Accounting Preference > 'Consolidate Projects on a Sales Order' .. this moves the Project field from the header to the line-level, allowing you to create new on a per Item basis

thanks, i found that. tho we need both a main project and sub-projects. so i set up a controller for naming conventions on projects and sub projects then added a scripted link to the lines.
