Hi folks, I am brand new to netsuite having worked in MS Dynamix for many years. The small organization I just joined has been using netsuite for a while, but they have an extremely small crew and a fairly uncomplicated operation, and no one has any experience with any of the advanced inventory management functions. I am mainly responsible for our demand planning and inventory management. They do not have the demand planning functionality activated now. We do a combination of wholesale and direct retail sales, about 500 SKU’s, with purchasing lead times ranging from about 1 month to 4 months with a few items as long as 6 months, and much of the sales order demand is at-once. No one has been in this role for 2 years or so, and it appears in the past they had a mix of utilizing the native netsuite reorder functions (preferred stock levels, reorder points, etc) with some items set to manual and others auto, but most of the work over the previous couple years was done via spreadsheets outside of netsuite without any real methodology applied. I am trying to migrate more of our work into netsuite from external excel sheets, and I could use some troubleshooting help as I have not been able to get enough detail in any of the support tools I’ve found so far. I have 2 questions right off that I am hoping someone might be able to help me with.
1. I have my own calculated preferred stock levels and safety stock levels I would like to utilize for replenishment ordering now. I imported this info into the item records for all current items (auto settings are all off, safety stock levels, turnaround times per item are ow set, etc) as well as in the item location configuration (preferred stock level and reorder points). The problem I am having now is that netsuite is spitting out a very different preferred stock level/reorder point than what is entered on the items, even though I have un-checked all of the auto-calculate options. example, one item the safety stock is set to 200 units, the preferred stock level is 400 units, so I believe the reorder point should be 600 units. However, on the order items screen and in the saved search I am using to record/overview and check everything, the reorder point and preferred stock level now says over 1400 units--I cant find this number anywhere else and nothing seems to add up to that number, so it seems to be some sort of auto-generated figure as if its still auto-calculating. I have adjusted all of these numbers manually down to 1 unit each, made certain I had all of the auto-calculate boxes un-checked, adjusted lead times, and it is still giving me a reorder point significantly higher than it should be (safety/reorder/preferred all at 1 unit and the system is reflecting a reorder point and preferred stock of 751 units). Any idea how I can get the system to recognize the manual stock levels I have set? Or is this functionality actually not possible without the demand planning module?
2. in a thread elsewhere I saw what I believe was a quote from the support menu that indicated you should NOT use manual reorder points now and then switch to auto calculation via a mass update in the future. Since our sales history is so off from the past year+, I had planned to set these levels manually for now to ensure there was plenty of inventory, and then after a year or so when the sales history should be unaffected by widespread out-of-stocks and should therefore be more reflective of actual demand, switch it back to auto calculation via another item record import. Am I misunderstanding something here? Is there a problem with this plan that i should anticipate?
Thanks in advance for any insight or help.
