We have a virtual Distribution Center which all of our warehouses can see - one warehouse is in the same physical location as the DC, the other two warehouses are in different states. The distant warehouses can 'back order' inventory from the DC as can the warehouse that shares physical space with the DC. The problem is that often the local warehouse gets all of the items because items aren't committed to the distant sales orders until a transfer order is done. Is there a way to auto commit items regardless of location to create a true FIFO system across all of our warehouses?

Hi @Amanda Flynn we have a solution that might be able to help you with this situation. Take a look at this link: https://www.rfsmart.com/netsuite/solutions/rf-smart-pre-allocation-distribution. While we originally designed it for the retail industry we could customize a solution to fit your individual needs. Let me know if you would like to explore this further and we can go into more detail.

@Amanda Flynn Can you describe how the physical flow of goods happen when someone orders an item and a distant warehouse fulfills it? (Not Netsuite, but actual Goods flow)
a
@Kman - when a someone in a distant market places an order for an item in our central DC, those orders are tracked here at the DC by sales managers and twice a week transfer orders are written to fulfill the orders and the items are then sent on a truck to the distant warehouse. So problem being, someone KY orders an item from the DC, but since it isn't committed the item still shows available. Someone in the local warehouse places an order for it because it still looks available.

@Amanda Flynn Could you make the twice a week process to a daily process?

No. The solution I want is for NS to automatically commit inventory to distant SO's from our DC warehouse. Not sure that's possible, because then someone would still have to know what items to put on a TO, I'm thinking now the solution may be scripting something that creates and builds upon a TO as SO's are entered.

You could write a script/ workflow maybe that generates a TO for any items at the distant DC on back order that are on hand at the main DC
fwiw - Here's my soapbox speech - this is where a lot of companies fall into the trap of over-customization. The system is functioning the way it is supposed to - in reality the business process needs to be updated. You can in theory get a script/ workflow to do this, unfortunately, when you do multiple customizations like this chances of something breaking/ not working are much higher.
You are most likely looking for a DRP solution (Distribution and Replenishment Planning) .. not sure NS is capable of that in its base functionality.
