In my experience, overheads are typically allocated to items via Routings, which consume the overhead resources (rent, labor, etc.) and consequently assigns the cost of those resources to the Items that move through that routing...e.g. a $/hr or $/unit or similar rate for is applied to every item that routes through Process #1.
