Morning all. We're looking at moving away from using ACS - what training would you recommend I pick up to take over some of the work they do? i have access to the learning portal, i was looking at the workflow fundamentals?

I just started a job where we took over from ACS. Before they leave I would challenge them to document everything that's active script, workflow and scheduled saved search wise. I've found that their code is often scripting by committee and that the different styles of the different coders was apparent and often confusing. I do wish that I had insisted that they identify the flows of data they had customized, as it would have saved me literally a few dozen hours of digging through their work.

I agree with @Charles Boyer. At the very least, try to get them to hand over the project requirements they gathered. I had a really hard time when I took over for our ACS team.. Hope this will help you get an understanding of the projects they helped with. As for training, I'd start with the basics if you've never gone through any formal NetSuite training. ERP Fundamentals, Administrator Fundamentals, NetSuite Essentials, then I would dive into Workflow stuff.

Thanks both - they spent a good 4 months custom building some approval workflows for us, getting nowhere, then in last weeks call the solution architect they brought in told us there was a free product called suiteapprovals that would do everything we wanted. Jaws dropped - 40 hours spent to date on scripting etc, with no delivery, and it turns out there's a plug and play option that already exists!
j
@Matt that is virtually the same thing that happened to us.. Happy it worked out for you!

@Josh Godfrey what was your outcome?

We were trying to build a complicated approval workflow for Employee Change Request. After 3-4 months of working with ACS, NetSuite released the Employee Change Request module. Everything worked right out of the box.
My big take away from the entire project was to limit the complexity of workflows, and I wish ACS would have said that to begin with. If you need to have multiple states and transitions, you're probably better off using Suitescript to support your business process. I've taken the same approach with using my ACS hours; they are excellent with small projects! But, the bigger the project, the more time you'll find yourself jumping into their work.. At least that's my opinion.
