Not sure if this is the right channel, but I was wondering if Netsuite Admins here could provide insight into their day to day job is like and if possible how the on-boarding at a new company went? Reason I ask is because I am currently a Senior Staff Accountant, but have been applying to specific NetSuite Admin roles. I am basically the NetSuite admin at my current company, but we utilize it in relatively limited scope. While I feel confident I could fill in the gaps, but I am also nervous due to lack of hands-on experience in certain areas.

@Chris TBH, day-to-day is all over the place. The first 6-12 months is always the hardest since you have to get a handle on a new implementation, processes, etc. After that things calm down and it's more well-planned process improvement and standard stuff like reports, csv imports, managing scripts/workflow issues/changes, and user management.

Bottom line, if you feel confident that you can figure things out, you should go for it. You may have to work your butt off during the night the first few months to learn all the new things you supposedly "know", but learning and growing is always a good thing
I personally came from consulting doing implementations so it wasn't very hard to move into Admin. Consulting pros are you see all these different accounts and get lots of experience, but cons are the work/life balance is usually not there.
Happy to chat (or even call) if you feel it would be useful. But I pretty much always encourage people to stretch themselves and apply for the position they want to have rather than the one they can already do. There's always more to learn, even for old hats.

Thanks for the advice. I have some experience with integrations (mainly additional modules and subsidiary integrations). Luckily a couple of the positions I am applying to are already setup so I would expect it will be similar to the day to day job you describe.

Yeah I just meant an implementation that was different than the one you came from (modules, enabled features, etc.). Be confident and believe in yourself. Best of luck!

I remembered I stayed up late for 3 days straight to figure out how to do workflow on my first implementations. I agree that a person should be a consultant first before jumping into an admin role since you will see everything under the sun. This goes with integration, implementations, time management, client relationship..etc..
being resilient is also very important in this job.

I am looking into consulting roles as well for the reason of getting more exposure, but that seemed even more daunting. I plan to go through the ERP Training and am applying it to my current job to get more experience with it. Had 1 phone interview so far and the position actually similar to the type of work I do now so it actually it helped calm my nerves some.

This is exactly my experience right now, I am the sole administrator for NetSuite and have implemented all features, processes, workflows and integrations since its inception, however we only have a top level use of one aspect of NetSuite, the remainder is unclear. As well as the differences between our product industry versus a service industry for example. I am just running examples through our sandbox to gain the knowledge.

Welp I went and did it. Applied to a couple places and got an offer and accepted a position as business system analyst. I felt good about the company and they seem to care a lot about extra training and continuing education, which is nice. I imagine I will be on here a lot more once I start. 🙂
