is it possible on a WO to change the prefix of the serial number....currently our serial numbers all start with 1 and look like 10617200012...is it possible to 20617200012 instead for a certain item?

for existing ones? or going forward. did you try mass update? you also might be able to change that via CSV since serial numbers resides on item record.

Moving forward....I only want it the serial number to have a prefix of 2 on a specific item and the rest remain the same

you give the serial number when you receive the item, if you have an automation its probably a script. if you are talking about items you make you give the serial number upon work order completion. look at your script and you can modify the number.
