Since the stock updates in NetSuite can occur due to multiple reasons (New sales orders, item receipts for purchase orders, transfer orders, order cancellations/returns, inventory adjustments etc,), I have observed (in my exp working with NetSuite platform) that a change in the inventory (due to any of these reasons) may not necessarily commit the item record in the NetSuite database. To verify this, try creating an inventory adjustment record & then review the “lastmodifieddate” field value on the item record before & after the inventory adjustment. In short, the user event would fail to catch such events for updates to Quantity on Hand & Quantity Available.

That's exactly what we experience as well. We currently have a workflow active that updates an insignificant field on all our items every 5 minutes, but that's not the design we are looking for. Does anybody have any idea on whether there is a hidden stock API? All other systems we integrate with have it as a separate interface from items. The only reason I can think of why netsuite would not build such an api, is that they want to give more people a reason to go to suitecommerce...
