Item Type on Transaction Line Fields

anybody know if it is possible to search a transaction let say: Invoice and get the Item and the Item Type in a single query?

is a builtin field on (at the very least) sales orders. Either way you should be able to do a custom field of "List/Record : Item Type" "Source List : Item" "Source From : Type"
