Not off the top of my head, @jmacdonald . That approach should work and newRecord's status should update. Failing that, you could do a search.lookupField on the current record to identify the new status. I think I might then try deploying the UE to the invoice, then checking the createfrom record's status from there on the afterSubmit, since it's an invoice that will trigger that change.
