Enhancement 180667 > Setup > Users/Roles > Manage Roles > Edit a custom role > History tab > Be able to see a history logged for changing permissions on custom records Changes made in any Custom Record via Role Record is not being logged in System Notes nor History Tab. Currently this Enhancement is assigned to a specific Engineer already and it is possible that this will be available in the future.
Apparently, when adding permissions to a custom record type on a custom role, there are no System Notes or History logged. Even if you are looking right at the custom role or record type you can't see what permissions changed or when. Has this always been the case?
k
I imagine it would be. NS isn't great at firing things off for a related record from the first.
I thought the custom record permissions on the custom record is newish- like 2-3 years or so?
s
I don't know. It's just odd that opening a role, editing it, and saving changes to it doesn't show up in the history or system notes at all. It would for a standard record type or list, but for custom record types it just doesn't care.
k
Wait - so it's not logging the role change at all on the role when done from the role?
Or not logging it on the role when you do the update from the custom record?
s
The former - it's not logging the role change at all on the role when done from the role. So, our Admins edited a custom role (from the role page), added edit permissions to a custom record type, and saved the role. Then, nothing showed up in the system notes or history (it showed the last change as being in April). Just to be sure, Admin 1 then edited the role and removed the permission and saved it, then Admin #2 re-added the new permission, and it still wasn't logged. We could all swear that this used to be recorded somewhere, but NetSuite claims it has never worked and is an enhancement. Sometimes their support has me questioning my own memories at times.
k
I can't say I have ever seen a custom record get logged but I can also say I have never had a good reason to check it. I can take a peek and see if any of the ones I've changed over the last couple months show anything
s
it's a custom record that is part of our billing bundle, which is why we care about access to it.
k
It could be because the custom record permissions are actually stored on the custom record itself
s
that's true. we can check there as well. support didn't mention that as a workaround.
k
Have you tried a direct system notes search of a few record types related to permissions?
Could be like system notes for features. Stored but no where to see it because it's almost a subrecord
s
no. i'm not an admin in Production, so i'll have to have one of my two Administrators try that search tomorrow.
thanks for the suggestions, though! I am curious to see if it is stored anywhere. it should be.
k
I'm about to try it
definitely not logged
and to make it easy - i used a demo account with no activity and then made a permission change
interestingly, even a regular permission change doesn't result in a system note
but you can still see the history on the permission
at the custom role
