On a budget report, is there anyway to customise the search filters so that something like this, (see image), for the budget category could be a multi-select instead of a dropdown?

No

@KevinJ of Kansas Thanks, I'll start considering how I might achieve this with script, I'm guessing N/query will be the solution though I'm not sure how I might present the report even if I can code the query 😄

If cost isn't a primary concern - solution 7 can do this.
I mean, you'll have to go about it a backwards way.
where you bring in multiple budgets into multiple columns and then add it.
speaking of which - I might ask why you need to view multiple budget categories in a single column at once.
but perhaps it's just your way of allowing multiple departments to budget independently without people stepping on one anothers toes?

Nah it's a customer want's the option, I don't know the reason a consultant brought it to me. 🙂 If it can be done in code I can do it or one of my team, just didn't want to build a solution that wasn't necessary if there was a way to do it via the UI on a report or via WorkBooks for example 😉
Incidentally they were offered a solution using connector(s) but want something sat in NS 🙂

Nope. Saved searches of Budgets are shite.
Analytics workbooks aren't much better.
(can get much closer with it - but still only 70% of the way due to no math on pivoted data)
