For what it's worth - I find few clients are capable of understanding the SQL, and the tables themselves which is why it's not the first thing I recommend. Also - I tried goofing off with powerBI and my fairly powerful machine just choked pulling in data from a demo account.
For you - based on feedback/interactions we have shared - I don't see a reason to avoid doing it.
The only other thing I'll mention on it is that I had difficulty aligning what it was pulling with saved searches because the naming conventions weren't super straight forward. Though given that scott has been using it, and I've only ever fiddled with it, I'd be more inclined to believe his take on it.
