I have an Other Record Field custom field added to my Class record. It looks like I cannot join to get this field's value from an item record, in the criteria or results tabs. Trying to do something like
{class.custrecord_fldname}
but getting an error that I've specified a field that doesn't exist. Anyone know if it's possible to utilize these fields in searches somehow?
(also unable to do the same in a mass update)
s
Not sure if it's relevant or not, but we added a custom Other Record Field to Location in our account, as a List/Record: Customer field. However, when we created a saved search that joined to fields on the Customer record, we received a message that the saved search required the Administrator role to run. IT didn't say that there was any permission that could be granted, and even roles that had full access to both Location and Customer could not run the search, only Administrator, and scripts set to run as Administrator.
a
weird. I am Administrator though
s
Well, that is not the issue then. Are you using a saved search or a SuiteAnalytics workbook?
a
saved search - really, what i want to do is reference it in a mass update actually
thinking i may need to resort to a small scheduled script to do the cleanup
s
you could try a formula field on item, but if it's just for a one time cleanup it may not be worth it.
I have had frequent issues with join on Item custom field not working in transaction saved searches. Even a formula field doesn't work, I have to create a custom non-stored field using the sourcing & filtering tab.
a
yeah the formula fields don't work either
oh well, thanks for the sanity check!
s
you can try the sourced filed approach. For items, sometimes that is the only thing that works
In other words, Source List: Class, Source From: the custom field
i have no idea why that works when formula doesn't, but I have about 6 different fields where we had to do that
a
interesting thought, i'll try that
Brilliant! That worked like a charm via Mass update, thanks for the suggestion!
if you're ever close by the Buffalo NY area let me buy you a beer
s
I drive through Buffalo each time I visit my family in Cleveland (coming from Albany)! Unfortunately, I usually have three kids in tow in a minivan.
a
oh wow
whiskey, then 😛
s
I have spent practically every vacation in my life driving one direction or another on I-90, always headed somewhere between Chicago and Boston. I have family and friends in Gary, Toledo, Cleveland, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and Boston
a
wow - i'm from syracuse and grew up in rochester but live out here now, visit cleveland occasionally and rarely boston but family is pretty centralized in W/CNY
small world
s
I briefly lived in downtown Syracuse, and the in Rochester for many years. Never lived in Buffalo, though I can't imagine the snow there could possibly be worse than what we got in Syracuse.
I kind of wish I was still living in western new york, to be honest, but being close to my wife's family really helps with all of these kids. The people we met in Rochester are some of the nicest I have ever known.
a
IMO the people in Buffalo are even nicer - and we actually don't get a ton of snow here in the city. Suburbs in the north and especially southtowns get dumped on by lake effect. Being close to the lake in the city proper, it usually blows over us. I think CNY gets it worse typically.
s
For sure! We had a friend living in Oswego, and they got 102 inches of snow in a day or two, while she happened to be sick at home. By the time she felt better, she was stuck in her house, her front door and first story windows were completely barricaded by snow. A bunch of friends drove over to help make a tunnel through to her front door and rescue her. It was crazy.
a
that's crazy, those are the kinds of stories you always hear but i haven't personally experienced it
s
Buffalo definitely seems nice. One of our former database administrators left to move back home near his family in Buffalo. He was a real nice guy, super helpful to everyone.
a
I've had wanderlust but it's hard to imagine leaving here for anywhere else; been here 17 years
s
Yeah, I don't really enjoy the idea of moving myself. Traveling is nice. Staycations are even nicer, especially if there is a lot to do nearby. We are within three hours drive of Montreal, Boston, Providence, and New York City, so there is a lot to do that is pretty close by. Buffalo has a lot nearby as well. The finger lakes, Lake Erie, Letchworth state park, Toronto, Cleveland, Pittsburgh.
a
exactly - i try to go to the finger lakes often, or allegany state park
s
Oh, I forgot about Allegheny. My wife and I went camping there years ago (before the kids). Awesome place.
a
yeah it's gorgeous - and having Toronto less than 2 hours away is incredible
s
The last vacation we took before our first child was born was to Toronto (9 years ago). It was the last time we truly relaxed! I'd like to go back again in a few years, when our kids are old enough to leave for a few days.
a
definitely
