Whenever we used to receive items, we used to be prompted to add the inventory detail before the receipt could be saved, however now item receipts can be created without any error. Has anyone esle experienced this or is there a setting that someone may have accidentally changed that I need to check?
n
Not every item requires inventory details to be filled.
b
Is there a setting that makes the items to required inventory details?
n
If you use item status/bin/lot numbers, these all require inventory details. I don't think there is a setting.
b
We have USE BINS set on the items and it's saving an item receipt without us needing to enter any inventory details.
n
I think it is defaulting to the bin automatically.
b
Unfortunately, it's not.. that's why it got highlighted to me. It gets stuck in limbo and we need to use the bin put-away worksheet in order to put it in the bin.
n
which bin did it use on the IR?
b
None whatsoever... and I've check the use bins option is selected on the item record
n
Oh. You are saying: Bin is required on item, but IR is not setting it up causing problems with the bin assignment on inventory.
b
Correct.. Item - has "Use Bins" selected. When we complete an item receipt we get the option to add the inventory details, but we can then click save without entering it. The item then appears in the Bin Put-Away Worksheet and we can add the missing Inventory Details. I want to be able to stop the item receipt being created if no inventory details has been added.
n
Can you check on the IR form if inventory detail is marked mandatory?
b
All the fields at sublist field level just have a show option so you can't mark as mandatory. I guess I will be able to create a workflow to make this mandatory.. but it will need logic to check item type as service items and non-inventory items will not need a bin assigned to them.
n
Yeah, my bad. sublist fields don't have mandatory check.
n
It sounds to me like these transactions are using a Location which doesn't have Use Bins within the Location record set.
b
That's one of the first things I checked. All our locations have Use Bins set.
n
What is this accounting preference set to?
b
It's set exactly as per your screenshot. It's the item receipt we need the bins to be required.
k
Do you have a preferred bin setup?
b
In most cases, I don't think we have a preferred bin
t
Why do you want to use bins but not set a bin on an item receipt?
I have someone look in the Bin Putaway worksheet on a frequent basis for this very reason. There's no way to make it mandatory for item receipts.
b
That's out issue, some of the users accidently forget to set the bin in the receipt. I will see if a workflow or a script can stop this behaviour, otherwise, as you say the users will need to correct via the Bin Putaway worksheet.
n
What is this field set to? When this field is checked, it allows save without a bin if the item doesn't have a preferred bin. If it's not checked, user is prompted to enter inventory detail.
b
It is not checked.. but it allows us to save without being prompted for Inventory Detail.
t
It says except item receipts right on the setting name
