im assuming its because its filtered by reciept and i need the item income account from the item on the invoice

I don't work with receipts - are items present on that type of transaction record?
Assuming yes since you'd want to see the income account of them.

no they are on the invoice record only

Ahh, there ya go. Seems like you're on the right path and would have to get the information off the invoice. Again, since I dont work with reciepts i'm not entirely sure, but you could possibly start at the invoice, and pull in associated receipt information into your search.

strange thing is that the Item under the Items subtab on the invoice Record shows income account but has no data for it
field seems to not be pulling the information

Have you looked at the item record itself?
To see if there is indeed income account information on it?
