Looking for some advice! Anyone in the CPG industry that deals with retailers. If we have a national retail price for sku 123 that is $30 but we negotiate with a retailer we sell them it for $27. Via the PO the item line for sku 123 shows at $27 a unit. There is no discount shown on the PO since that's the negotiated price for that retailer for that specific sku. We use SPS for edi. How do companies handle this? Is there a need for a bunch of customization to bring in that sku at the $30 and then add a discount line under that sku of $3? If so, then the invoice no longer matches to the PO so how does that work with SPS? Just thinking of compliance and how it actually needs to be shown.

Why isn't the net price of $27 ok? Does your team want to show the $3 discount separately in the p&L or something?
Most companies I've seen prefer to have revenue posted at a net price so they can do proper GM and ASP calculations

@MGBC That is my thought exactly but something about compliance?

I think that having your sales order match the PO (so the $27 price since that is what is on the PO) is the best for compliance
Unless you know what compliance standards you are trying to achieve that needs something other than that
For most revenue recognition compliance I'm aware of; matching the SO to the PO presented by the customer is best practice

@MGBC apologies in advance for my general lack of knowledge. So what our vp of finance was saying is something regarding FCC compliance and needing the show the msrp compared to the discounted price coming in? But I am in the exact same mindset as you where what is shown on the PO is what should show on the invoice

No problem...honestly I'm not super familiar with anything regarding the FCC either. I'm assuming the products you sell are regulated by the FCC. Again, i'm not very familiar with this, but from what I know I thought the FCC only regulated customer facing pricing on service plans, not the produts sold in B2B transactions But again not sure As far as working with SPS goes, a lot of it depends on the data you are sending via EDI on the 855 or 810. Usually you do NOT want to change the data in Netsuite to diverge too much from what is sent via EDI as most subsequenct documents will be rejected if they do not match with the original PO
So you would either need to work with your trading partner to write the PO to include the promotion/discount line
OR you would need to do some pretty complex logic in Netsuite to create a pretty large workaround here
Again a lot of unknowns on my end here, but maybe try to push back on the VP a little to make sure they are fully understanding the FCC requirement they are referencings
