I don't know if they have to be the same exact record type or not, I haven't really tried it with multiple types ( like a transaction search can have sales orders, invoices, bills, ... I haven't tried to do an inline edit with a broad search like that, but I have with the same. So, I'm not sure if it would work with multiple types or not )
