I'm not all that familiar with the ODBC connector, but I would assume that's equivalent to the Saved Search criterion, yes. I think the balance is mostly calculated on the fly. I'm not an expert on table structure so I don't know if it's stored or calculated, but the Account Saved Search node at least has account balance in it. I think it's up-to-date current though and you can't put a date restriction on it (at least in the UI), but it's worth a shot. Word of advice when pulling GL balances: make sure you're basing your date criterion on Posting Period, not transaction date. Depending on your settings, the system will allow you to have a transaction date of say 6/1/2016, but have it hit posting period Dec 2016.
