Hello, I'm sort of confused about the future of bundles, are they still going to exist?
k
For the time being, yes.
Eventually, NS's goal is likely to supplant it with a more sophisticated copy to account function
however, copy to account in it's current state is insufficient to allow deactivation of bundles
If you deploy a customization to multiple accounts - I'd explore using SDF with an IDE in place of bundles.
but it's not like bundles are going to be turned off in the next year.
m
I've been confused about this as well. Seems like "copy to account" only lets you copy objects to other netsuite accounts you have access to, whereas public bundles could be used to let any netsuite user download objects into their account, regardless of whether the bundle owner also had access to the destination account
m
Yes, to me it seems bundles serve a different purpose than the "copy to account" feature but maybe SDF will evolve into a solid solution to completely retire bundles. For the time being, bundles it is.
k
How often are you installing a bundle in an account you don't have access to realistically?
m
For some context, I work at a SaaS company. We have a public bundle that each of our customers has to download. We don't have direct access to our customers NetSuite accounts. So we'd be pretty screwed if we were told to just start using "copy to account"

Hi all, I'm Matej Fucek, Senior Product manager for Distribution that includes, bundler at NetSuiteOracle. Bundler is still available, the warning banner is to kindly ask users to use SDF and copy to account wherever possible as bundler is marked for deprecation and we are no longer adding new features
s
@Matej Fuček Are there plans to provide a migration path for Bundles to SDF SuiteApps? I'm still very confused how to migrate customers from a Bundle to a SDF SuiteApp since configurations deployed via SDF SuiteApps all get tagged with a SuiteApp id and cannot have the same id (e.g. record type id) as the components deployed via a bundle. I hope the answer is not to create all new components, change all ids and migrate data.
Holding onto hope that there will be a quick way to switch over!
m
@Matej Fuček Will bundles still exist or is it just SuiteBundler being deprecated?
m
@Mr_Tib & @Seth Duda yes bundler is still here and will remain for some time. There is no date for its deprecation, we are only limiting the investment into bundler in favor of SDF and new distribution mechanism and we'd like for users to use SDF wherever possible. As for the transitioning bundle Installation base to SDF - there are usecases where its possible(but very limited ones) and we are looking into it. - its proving to be a bit tricky and we are very cautious.
m
Got it, thank you. I need to read more on this to be up to date.

Thanks @Matej Fuček - I can imagine it's very challenging! I'll hold onto hope that a migration path will be available in the future. In the meantime, I'm sticking with bundles for existing products.
