Curious - we have a healthy/beauty products customer who is deciding between Avalara and Numeral. Does anyone have positive experience with Numeral?

Can't speak to Numeral specifically, but I will say, we decided on Vertex versus Avalara (because of cost, which I'm assuming is the same driving factor behind the numeral consideration here) and performance of and deep technical support for the suiteapp for Vertex was pretty poor, to the point where we abandoned their suiteapp entirely and just ended up developing our way around it with direct API calls to Vertex. All the actual tax stuff works fine though. So my general impression is that basic taxation is going to work pretty well regardless of the system, unless you've got something really wonky (in which case you're probably already confirming/testing that piece in the demos), but the details you want to dig into is what their NetSuite integration actually looks like (because that's the piece they're only doing for a handful of their total customers). So yeah, tl;dr test their integration for sure, everything else, probably okay is my general impression.

Great reply, thank you! I've seen this question with other customers too, around AvaTax being pricey and them searching for alternatives.

Yeah, it's definitely multiples of the other services out there, but based on my limited experience they seem like the only ones who've spent some serious time and development resources on their NetSuite integration, everyone else is just slapping something up there and calling it done. So my recommendation has been that if a company has their own internal development resources, go for the cheaper option, it's not nothing, but not that hard to make it work. If not, then it may be wiser to just go with Avalara versus have to deal with the headaches and/or hire consultants. If you find someone who actually has a pretty performant, bulletproof tax service integration that's way cheaper than Avalara, I'd definitely be interested in knowing. Is ripe for disruption, in my mind, for a company seriously committed to NetSuite to capture all but the most complex customer use cases that Avalara serves.

This is super helpful, both! I posted a similar question in the #CHS1YMVA9 channel earlier this month, as we are considering other options as well. We currently use Avalara for US/CAN & are implementing Avalara VAT for reporting, but putting it on our plan for next year to review Numeral and other competitors to see what other resources are out there. It's gotten to be way too $$$.
