CA team is staying at Linq for ~$150 a night
r
bednar: are you a big fan of Linq? I've never been to Vegas, thinking of taking the BF too, but wanting it to be nice and super convenient for the struggle of getting out of bed in the morning
currently at the palazzo
b
I figure if I'm not spending a ton of time in the hotel/casino, I'm goign to like Linq well enough. I think if you're not spending $400+ a night on a room, a lot of these places feel the same when you're really looking for "a bed and a head"
Last time we went Aaron and I stayed at the Mirage and for entry-level rates, it felt a lot like any other hotel.
Palazzo will definitely be nicer if you're bringing a +1.
r
My main criteria is location, quiet-enough room, king sized bed and a really nice shower. everything else is whatever to me.
I might check out other options to see if i can save the co some money on the room ... and offset it with nicer nights out.
b
Big bed and nice shower are always the two things on my vacation list (and I usually end up only getting one of the two).
r
It's good to know other homos will be there. It's sometimes pretty hard to tell when you don't use those apps; a couple times last year they just turned out to be European. 😒
b
Ah, the ol' gay or European.
I'd be more upset about it, but my app days are long behind me. 🙂
r
same here. well, i was never a big fan of them anyway. waste so.much.time.
how long have you been a NS admin?
b
Been doing it about six years now. It's slowly becoming all I know. (I'm actually writing up a job description to try and spin myself off into a department as the 'Director of Applications').
Did IT/Network Admin stuff before that.
How about you?
r
nice. I've been a systems admin of sorts for about a decade... starting with Quickbooks to SAP Business One (then to some minimal R/3 work); then elsewhere with a godawful conglomerate called Epicor (using their Eagle POS system), then more recently to another implementation from Quickbooks - but finally to NetSuite
Director Applications is a totally relevant title, often a sub dept of IS
my background is both systems and accounting, so I tend to not get too technical -- but wish I had some of the skills available for some one-off work.
I know mid to high level networking, enough to troubleshoot, but i usually push it to our IT services group
b
Yeah, I have an econ degree so when the NS Admin burnt out and quit at my old old job they handed me the keys to the kingdom and I've picked up all the accounting stuff from there
and then it's been Sage/MIP, NS, SalesForce and SalesLogix since.
We've got a Director of Bus Ops and a Director of MIS, so this is the missing part of that title (and all of these system owners ultimately report to the CFO)
One day I'll have time to sit and write the plan when the day-to-day calms down
r
Nice. Sounds like a great path you were able to forge. Mine was pretty clear cut w/ degrees in MIS and accounting. I tried big 4 accounting for 2 years and hated my life, but appreciated the experience.
Your company sounds pretty large if you have those two other folks in place. ours is growing quite a bit and bound to break managerial ground in other categories sooner than later.
b
Eh. We're ~600 deep.
We have one person who we might steal from FP&A
So this is future-growth.
r
You guys are public, right? We don't have to be compliant just yet, but are trying to be anyway.
(assuming your profile is up to date... ChannelAdvisor?)
b
Yeah, that's us
r
... totally meant to include the word SOX in my last message btw.
