hi @Josh Godfrey Interested on your job offer. If fully remote I can probably work.
j
Yes fully remote, are you based in the US?
j
Unfortunately not but I have a lot of experience working with clients in the US for more than a decade now cause I used to be a functional consultant in a consulting firm based in San Jose CA
t
Hey @Josh Godfrey , I am curious why does it matter if the candidate is based out of US, since the job is fully remote. You have a chance to get the best candidates across the globe when its remote. You should be asking instead "are you able to adjust in our time zone ?" Please tell me if anyone knows about this.
m
@tuli His companies job listing states that you must reside in one of five states in order to remotely work for them. I would assume they do not want to deal with income taxes and sales taxes in states they do not already operate in.
t
Ohh so the taxes are the only reason for this. Got it.
m
Simply my assumption due to the restrictions in states.
c
Not really worth a company spinning up a legal entity in another country to deal with a permanent employee. Bit different with contractors, mind

It's a relatively small firm, and we're not international. Our small HR/Payroll department is managed in-house. So, I can only assume the primary reason we are not looking to hire full time outside of the US is strictly compliance. We're just not equipped for that type of regulation. We do have contractors on staff right now, but we are looking for long term help.
m
It's not just international. Although remote: "This position is available within the states of Florida, Texas, Washington, Michigan, Tennessee, and New Jersey." No issues with it, people should know prior to trying to apply.
j
Good point, I'll definitely update my original comment.
@mightyd3 where did you see that sentence? I can't find it on the job posting.
j
hmm maybe they took it off?
m
In the Details section on that page
message has been deleted

Ahh.. Thanks

Oh okay. Sorry I didn't know they need to setup a legal entity in order to give anyone a job. Thank you all for the explanation.
Actually, I had seen that most of the times, "candidates must be based out of US/Canada/UK ". I thought what is the extraordinary in these guys 😄 ? but now I know
j
Update on this for anyone following along. They are opening up the search to include all 50 states.
