Hi, I've created a custom field on a Vendor record. Later it was decided to have that custom field as an external id for easier csv import. I used {externalid} tag in the Dynamic Defaults with Formula checked. Will this work?

I expect you aren't going to get what you want that way. To first set the External ID you will need to do a CSV import Internal ID <> External ID.
