is there a way to create a new instance of a dashboard tile?

Are you referring to add a new Dashboard tile or are you thinking about replicating the entire feature?

@Josh Godfrey like having multiple tile portlets but have them show different data, if you add multiple of the custom portlet set to Tiles, they will always be the same
