Anyone here ever work with Avalara? I have some sales tax discrepancies between our website and ERP. I have a pretty good hunch as to why that's the case, but I kinda wanna bounce it off a couple people here before we go down a rabbit hole.
p
we use Avalara with shopify and celigo (and netsuite), but we don't have plus, so we had to set up a different tax mapping model
r
Is it a rounding issue. NetSuite is notorious for not rounding the same as other applications
x
@Rebecca That's part of it.
r
It could also be the shipping address. Avalara calculates to the rooftop, many other programs only calculate to the zip code. Avalara’s method is the most accurate.
x
@pmendola Right now we're trying to get Celigo to reverse engineer something for us but I dunno 100% if it'll work or not.

We used to have an issue (using avalara, celigo, shopify) where there were tax discrepancies because of the warehouse location address in netsuite. I don't remember the specifics but shopify and avalara NS were using this information differently.
p
we just ended up not using Avalara for our shopify orders, I just made tax codes per state ie "Shopify NY", then overwrote the tax using the celigo connector, and then uploaded those transactions to avalara instead of using the AVATAX code. Celigo did mention a few times that they designed the connector to overwrite the tax even if Netsuite uses the AVATAX code which makes me nervous/I didn't find out until i spent many hours with the above solution, but it could be true.
the above was also a way to get around all the AVATAX transactions just going into 1 difficult to reconcile bucket tax control account

We are kind of in the reverse situation. We have Avalara installed on our website (Magento) but not in ERP, and that throws tax totals off a lot.
p
Celigo's magento connector can't "overwrite" tax amounts?
x
I dunno. I am not given access to our Celigo account for some reason 😜
p
if it does, you shoudl still be able to do what we did, but you might not be able to use netsuite's native tax tables (thought you can still separate tax accounts by state etc

Hey @XochisSketches! Celigo's NetSuite integration with Magento 1 didn't offer what @pmendola shared (overwrite NetSuite tax rates based on website tax) but our Magento 2 integration has the same feature
Also, if the NetSuite rounding issues continue to trouble, the Celigo integrations can add an extra line item to the transaction to square it up
