There are two caveats to this though. 1) the average rate doesn't recalculate automatically unless someone hits the "calculate" button (risky to assume it will never be hit though) 2) if the subsidiary you're making the change in has a parent subsidiary that has the same currency, its transactions do not get included in the average calculation. It is only subsidiaries directly underneath a currency change that get included in the calc
