What is the recommended way to allow edits to a customer record from suitecommerce? I was trying to do it through a service file but it is asking for the customer list permission which I can't grant to a customer center type

Create a custom role and set permissions on the service file in the UI.

This is correct 🙂. Given how this works, you need to ensure that the customer is only able to access their own record.
