We currently have SuiteCommerce (Standard), but are looking to potentially switch eComm platforms. On the table are SCA or an integration with Magento or Shopify. We are entirely B2B, so we are looking for the best B2B experience. Looking for insights on cost, difficulty of implementation, etc. For those who have upgraded to SCA, was it a long process? Did a team have to help out or is this something an in-house team could manage easily? Any thoughts would be greatly welcome as we do our initial evaluation.
s
Since you are already in SC. Then, you already have some idea with level of difficulty in customizing if you are a developer even if you are not in SCA yet. The process is simple if you would just request to have SCA to your account from your Account Manager and just enabled the current extensions and theme you have.
j
I am not a developer, just a lowly admin. I'm gathering information to share with our team, so I need non-dev perspective in terms of cost and length of upgrading and if it's worth the upgrade for folks who have. I do appreciate your response, though.
f
Can you share details on why you are looking to switch eComm platforms?
j
We are looking for more control over the functionality of the site and a potentially smoother/better experience for a B2B company.
f
SCA gives you more flexibility than SC in terms that you own the code
you can change whatever you want
j
Right, we are aware of that. Just wanted some info on the cost difference, implementation timeline and difficulty, process, etc.
f
the recommendation is still going with what is supported on the extensibility layer, but if you need to change the core framework you can do it in SCA
if you are already in SC, moving to SCA should be fairly easy
j
Okay, good to know.
f
the features are exactly the same in SC than in SCA
same functionality, so whatever you need that is not in SC, it won´t be in SCA
you will have to build it
So in my opinion, unless you have a real need to change things in SC core framework, or build very complex things for your website, SCA is not needed, you could do it in the form of extensions in SC.
I can not comment on Shopify or other ecomm platforms
