Does anyone know the best practice on number of items one can safely add to a commerce category without experiencing noticeable performance degradation?

I'm not aware of performance problems with commerce categories but I believe the hard limit is 10000

Okay, thanks! I seem to recall at some point someone mentioning a page could slow down if too many items were added to a category.
