What I'm wondering is:
1. Is it even possible to switch accounts on this item? It's been around for a while and there's a ton of transactions - maybe that's why it's erroring?
2. If it is possible, will it affect ALL transactions in history, or just those in periods that aren't locked?
3. If it's not possible, would doing a regular journal entry be advised or just bite the bullet?RJMNS

there's a ton of transactions - maybe that's why it's erroringMost likely. I ran into a similar thing when attempting to change an old item.
will it affect ALL transactions in history, or just those in periods that aren't lockedDefinitely will affect open periods. might impact locked, not closed periods. Definitely will not impact closed periods I was always worried to do this because I was never able to find an answer if this process "queues" meaning if I have only June 2025 open for instance and it makes the changes for June 2025, does it sit waiting for me to open any old period that has transactions from this item in it? Like if the accounting folks open May 2025 for whatever reason after you make that change, will this process jump in and try to change those? I don't know and not being able to find a solid answer to that question always made me nervous to try it. I think it's safest to create a new item set up correctly and just journal it.
