is there any way to filters items on a transaction form based on the customer with minimal scripting? some customers only have access to some products and we want to filter out the ones they don't have access to. I was thinking form item filters but I'm pretty sure you can pass a customer parameter

You are right - no customer/transaction parameters to a form filter.
