Has anyone ever seen someone move roles and permissions from production to SBX? As far as I know it is all manual?
c
You should be able to use the Copy to Account feature, or do a Sandbox refresh
a
@Chelsey Kiester what about with items or custom fields? all sandbox refresh right?
c
Yeah, the copy to account feature doesn't work on everything so your best bet is a sandbox refresh
a
@Chelsey Kiester thank you! How new is the Copy to Account feature? This is the first I've heard of it and I've been in NetSuite for 10 years... (not that you have the answer to this question, just out of curiosity).
e
Copy to Accounts always fails for me when trying to copy roles

@Chelsey Kiester also wondering, do we have to go employee by employee?
c
Oh I really don't mind answering, however, I don't have a great answer for you, it's been around for at least 3 years. That is the earliest memory that I have of using it but I suppose I didn't recognize it as new when I started
@amandarosiak yeah, you will have to do each role, custom field, and item individually
n
please be careful copying roles using Copy to account feature as it will over-write the existing roles and can create a huge mess. With the roles, always best to re-create them manually
it will over-write existing roles with the same internal ID (so if you refreshed your sandbox a while ago and internal IDs of roles don't match in SB vs Prod, you will have a problem)
c
@Edgar Valdés If there are any dependencies, that exist in production and not in sandbox or vice versa then the feature does error out.
@Nadia Lewis that has been my experience as well, good advice

You could do this via SDF.
a
@Tristan Day what is SDF? Sorry!
t
SuiteCloud Development Framework. #C42JX79UZ
it's what devs use to update / upload customisations etc
a
Thank you so much @Tristan Day!

Refresh would be your best bet, otherwise you can you use bundle feature to move the roles to SB
