can one bank account accept multiple currencies?‘

I don't believe so. I think once the subsidiary and currency are set on the bank account it cannot be changed> And transactions can onlly post in that currency
k
create multiple COA bank type accounts for each currency even if it is the same bank account number (where you can send and receive monies using multiple currencies)
s
By design bank account can have only single currency.
@Karina isn't the currency get transformed in to the base currency of the account by the bank? Unless you have multi currency bank accounts. Also wouldn't that be messy for bank reconciliation?
j
if the bank is in the same currency as the subsidiary, then yes. If not, then no.

@Sam-I-Am the currency does not really get converted for the bank account at the operational level but does for the BS presentation. Every Canadian company has USD and CAD COA accounts and UK based companies have EUR and GBP COA accounts.. . Most of banks have accounts where you can use multiple currencies, but there is no on-to-one relations in NS between bank account in the bank and bank type COA account because you can only use one currency per COA bank type account…. And yes, it is a bit messy for recons but what do you do if your customer does not pay in your native currency…. but you send the invoice in their currency which is not your currency, that
is how problems are created 🙂
s
you can use a pass through or clearing account also, correct?
k
you sure could
particularly for data migration 🙂
but in the regular course of business, of course, why not, but it implies manual work

thank you everyone!
