Just had a global NS partner try to persuade us that SDF should be used instead of Salto 😄 How's everyone else's Thursday going?
a
I've heard of salto but that's all, I just assumed it worked with SDF? it replaces it wholesale?
c
Sits on top of SDF
Easily diff environments, deploy changes between them, version them, rollback etc.
Proper release management for NetSuite.
a
i'd love to read a write up that wasn't completely sponsored by salto and a puff piece 😛

Eric did a decent set of videos showing actual usage. You may or may not consider it a puff piece 🙂
a
I love @erictgrubaugh but based on the linked in promotions i saw, it definitely felt like it would be a puff piece, I should probably be less immediately damning
n
I am not using Salto. Managing multiple NetSuite environments using SDF just fine.
c
I'm watching a team of Devs and consultants walk all over each others changes
the amount of discipline required with SDF alone is a bit too high
8 sandboxes and one prod
n
Are they using Git?
👍 1
c
Yes but I've never seen anyone suggest git in a way that prevents overwriting each others code
You still have to diff everytime you work on anything in the env
There's too much discipline required from a group of people with varying skill levels
n
I have managed team of devs and contractors while working remotely. No one overwritten the changes. So it can be done.
c
I'm sure it can, I'm yet to see it though

As long as you can deploy directly from the IDE, someone will do it.

@Anthony OConnor Arik from Salto here . I completely understand your concern about puff content—we’re all constantly exposed to sponsored and biased content. I also understand that simply saying this isn’t the case with us might still not be enough. I really do! So I’d like to make a suggestion: How about we set up a live demo for you and record it, so others in this thread can watch later? Would you be open to that?
a
haha hey Arik, I'm just curious because I've heard of the product, I don't think I'm actually in the market for it, so I'm not sure I'm the best person to do that. Also I mostly build suiteapps, which is small segment of your potential market so I don't think I'm the best guinea pig for you to showcase it... sounds like @Craig might be better. and I will go back and find @erictgrubaugh’s salto stuff, I know he's not just a shill for you guys, he wouldn't risk his reputation like that.
c
I always recommend to my clients over a certain level of complexity or with high volumes of change.

@Anthony OConnor sounds good. If you ever change your mind I’d love to set a demo (even if you’re not in the market). And re @erictgrubaugh - you’re totally right! I believe he wouldn’t collaborate with us for a second, unless we proved we deliver value to NS folks. Have a great weekend!
and thank you, @Craig!!
