Anybody using the Vertex bundle for sales tax?  Sounds like we're about to start using it soon, so I'd be curious about general pros and cons and lessons learned around implementation.

why on earth did your firm choose vertex? not a lot of users for the NS base

cheaper than avalara I think and the initial plan was not to use the bundle at all and just call their API as part of our billing process (that requires an external integration anyways), but now they're re-thinking that and probably going to use the bundle for a small segment of our business that goes (sort of) directly out of NetSuite.

and seems like behind the scenes all the tax services are using all the same data sources anyways, so seemingly not much difference in functionality/tax accuracy

all of that is true. most of them have their own tax research teams and populate their data sets. If not using bundles they are all the same. Ping server, return response etc.
