Is it possible to add custom fields to a linking record? I know that Contacts records can be attached to Customer records, and that the attachment itself can have additional data with it. Ex: The

contactrole

field, which is only present on the Customer record, Contact sublist. This means that there's a linking record stored somewhere, however after spending a few days googling and crawling NetSuite, I can't find any reference for anyway to do that if it's possible at all.
