I could use a script to inactivate thousands of saved searches.

Saved searches don't have an "inactive" checkbox like other record types. You can delete them or change the access permissions. A map/reduce script might work for a mass-delete process.

They do on the list view, but anyway, I found a script that deletes them in bulk, which should do.
