Quick Question, is there a way to create a standalone credit memo that will not impact inventory? We have a few orders that were shipped short and a credit memo was issued to the customer but these invoices were for order billed in Quickbooks prior to NetSuite. we want to keep track of those credits but when trying to create the credit memo in NetSuite it requires us to enter the item and serial numbers since we have serialized inventory.

You can't do it with "real" (aka inventoried) items, but it's pretty common to use a dummy non-inv item named "short ship" or something applicable. You can set the GL accounts to go the proper place and then it will work.

If I recall correctly I've done this in the past with quantity of zero on the credit memo.

@GeneralKenobi Use item of type Other Charge. Create credit memo with that item. This will only impact the financial side. Answer also supported on SuiteAnswers. 🙂
