Before I go looking, if I have a search and wish to send the result via email as a PDF will I have to process the results? Or is there an API method I can use to do it for me? (by "do it" I mean attach the search result as a pdf)

I think you need to create a advanced-pdf template and use the SS-methods to transform it.
