I did finally get the code to work in a User Event script. When run in a Client Script it still throws that same error message. Can anyone confirm that this function is only supposed to work within User Event scripts? Why is there this limitation?

the functionality of that function was confusing enough that NetSuite changed how it worked in SuiteScript 2
