I've tried that and it complains about "..expression known to be legally refer to something that is sometimes null.." which I've wrapped the variable around the proper <#if myvar??>text1<#else>text2</#if>. I can only assume that it's not able to read the ${record.custcol_scm_customerpartnumber} at all.
