I've no doubt you could find some jobs in any big company that are not very productive/helpful, but there's no way it's half of them. And I'm sure that if they just cut a whole bunch of jobs the very first thing they'd do is spend more on retirement/benefits. Sounds to me like cover for "cut a whole bunch of jobs that are working on stuff that won't pay off immediately, diminishing long term growth, so we can put all that money in my pocket in the short term"

My nephew is one of the victim of the latest job cut at Google, their entire team was let go, and they moved the jobs to India, Mexico and Philippines. Though he is pretty young and got hired at Google straight out of school, was there for 2 years. I told him welcome to the real world, take it as a lesson for life. 😁

Sorry for your nephew. Definitely no such thing as job security anymore. One of my friends likes to say "ABI: Always Be Interviewing".

That's why I never turn off "open" in my LinkedIn profile in the background so recruiters can find me LOL
