I haven't had to stop an M/R script, but a technique that works for Scheduled scripts is to check a script parameter value periodically in your script and gracefully exit (in your code) based on that value

yeah, that's an insane amount of time for a search to execute!

The search load time is not that much - a few seconds only and the search has only one filter. I think it was probably something else.

oh, I assumed your getData stage was loading a search, and it took a very long time to complete that stage.
