so for example with NLAuth if i had a url ending
&deploy=1&filters=%5B%7B%22fieldid%22%3A%22matrix%22%2C%22operator%22%3A%22is%22%2C%22value%22%3A%22F%22%7D%5D
then it works, the json is passed through to the script and i can parse it. but when i do the same with TBA it wont log in, which i assume is something to do with it urlencoding the params for the signature. but i cant see how to get around it

Assuming you can't use post, is that correct?
I looked at some other scripts of mine and they all use POST to send over JSON data. If you sent plain sample text, would that work?
i.e. &deploy=1&filters=test
I would also try adding an & at the end of the string
