Yes, I think I will have to, but in my experience in the past I will need to not just set the sublist 'item' property, but also the 'qty', 'amount', 'rate', 'description', 'taxcode', all my custom item fields. I just wish the SS2.0 API had a clone/duplicate line item function. But as always with NetSuite everything is hard and costs money
